The blaze broke out at a home on Allerton Road in Clinton around 8:20 p.m., Clinton Township Police said. Officers arrived and found that the man was able to extinguish the flames but had been injured in the process.
The man was subsequently flown to Saint Barnabas Medical Center for further treatment.
Assisting agencies include the Annandale Hose Company, Clinton Fire Department, South Branch Emergency Service, and the Clinton Township Fire Marshall.
The incident is being investigated by the Clinton Township Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutors Office.
